Our Story
Why luxury outdoor lighting?
Elisterno Outdoors was first envisioned in 2022 by Rob and Anna Bruck- long time lighting enthusiasts and the founders of the high end award winning custom hospitality lighting company Innovations in Lighting. After searching the market for outdoor lighting for their own home, they found the options and designs available to be limited and not to their taste. They longed for a return to the classic European design and craftsmanship that resulted in a truly timeless lighting fixture, but built to modern standards and engineered for an outdoor location. Unable to find it on the market, they decided to produce it themselves.
Choosing to work only with authentic materials- solid brass, stainless steel and glass, but also bringing in the latest in LED technology to light these creations, each piece would be hand-crafted and polished, inspected to the highest of standards, and most importantly UL approved for Wet Locations, allowing these outdoor chandeliers and outdoor sconces to be installed anywhere: indoors, outdoors, in residential and in commercial locations, in dry and in exposed locations.
Why Solid Brass?
Solid brass is the most durable material for outdoor lighting- more corrosion resistant than aluminum and more durable than copper. Brass fixtures will patina over time (slowly turning darker) but will not corrode so are always our first choice of material. When a more silver toned finish is needed though, we switch to Stainless Steel- also an excellent choice.
What is UL Wet Label, and how does it compare to damp locations only labeling?
Our high end outdoor chandeliers, outdoor pendants and outdoor sconces are all rated for Wet Locations and approved by UL (Underwriters Laboratories). UL is a globally recognized mark that insures the safety, quality, and compliance of our fixtures. UL is the most widely used mark in the US lighting market and has been around since the 1800's. This certification means our products have been tested to withstand direct exposure to water including rain, sprinklers, splashing, etc, so they really can be installed in any location indoors or outdoors without any concerns. Damp label (which we do not use) means the fixture is NOT tested to the same level and should not be installed in direct exposure to water. Damp label light fixtures are built only to withstand exposure to moisture and condensation (such as in a bathroom or covered outdoor area).
Why LED?
LED fixtures have the advantage of longer life (the Cree bulbs we use are rated for 50,000 hours), and energy efficiency: most of our fixtures use 40 watts or less, and some even use as little as 5 watts of power. Don't let the look of our designs fool you though- these are not typical screw in type bulbs, but meticulously engineered luminaires with artisan glass shades that give the appearance of an elegant chandelier, and each light fixture is built to allow for bulb replacement if needed (50,000 hours is a long time, but it's not forever).
Are these really dimmable?
Yes! All our beautiful chandeliers and outdoor sconces are designed and built with the latest technology - and although some dimmers will work better than others, almost any standard dimmer (triac/forward phase or reverse phase) will allow you to adjust your light level without any issues. Triac is the most common dimming method on the market (and is also referred to as forward-phase). Reverse phase dimming is more expensive, but typically gives you better control and smoother dimming overall. Our chandeliers and sconces are compatible with most major lighting controls and can integrate seamlessly into almost any lighting design.
What does universal voltage mean?
Our LED drivers (which power our products) are designed to install on almost any electrical circuit- from 100 volts all the way up to 277 volts, making them compatible with the electrical system in any country around the world, and even in commercial applications.
What does color temperature mean? and what is CRI?
In our opinion, too much outdoor lighting tends to be white or even blue in color, so lacks the warmth of traditional indoor lighting. Our 2700K LED bulbs have that warm incandescent glow, and our quality of light (we use a minimum 90CRI) ensures the accuracy of colors. CRI stands for color rendering index, and the closer you get to 100 (sunlight), the more accurate colors appear. Please know we also offer the option to customize our fixtures for an even warmer (antique amber "Edison" glow) with 2200K and even 3000K if you're trying to color match to other outdoor fixtures in the area.
